What Factors Impact Cut Quality & Cut Speed

When it comes to cut quality and speed, any metal fabricator is looking to maximize and improve.  The faster you can make cuts, the higher the productivity. And, the higher the cut quality, the faster you are able to produce parts and the less material waste which means less wasted money.  At Tactical CNC, we know that cut speed and quality are of utmost importance and that is why we make our CNC plasma cutting systems using only the highest quality, most durable materials.  And, not only are our outstanding tables easy to use, but so is our state-of-the-art CNC CAD drawing and CAM cutting software.  But, there are also variables that CNC plasma table operators must be aware of and adjust for in order to maximize cut quality and speed.

There are many different factors that can impact cut speed and cut quality.  First, if the plasma power source is not adequate, it will not be able to produce as fast of a cut speed.  Tactical CNC plasma cutting systems come with digital high-speed, heavy-duty NEMA 32 motor drives to ensure the plasma cutter can cut with speed and efficiency.  Additionally, depending on the specific material being cut, the speed may vary.  For that reason, if you tend to cut a specific type of material or the sheets of material tend to be thicker it is important to choose the ideal plasma torch so that speed is not compromised.

In addition to cut speed, there are variables that can affect cut quality.  First, if the plasma torch is not at the ideal height the cut quality is certain to be compromised.  Fortunately, Tactical CNC plasma cutting systems come with automatic torch height control (ATHC) that is controlled by sophisticated software to ensure that the torch is always at the ideal height for the material and the specific cuts being made.  Another factor that may impact cut quality is the machine’s consumables.  If the consumables are worn it is important to replace both the nozzle and electrode for optimized cut quality.  Further, if the cut speed is set either too fast or too slow cut quality may be diminished.  Finally, your table may need some overall maintenance or attention if you are noticing cut quality has diminished.  If that is the case, we provide remote access for trouble-shooting and are always available to answer your questions or provide any support you might need to maximize the quality of the cuts that your Tactical CNC plasma cutting table produces.
