Everything You Need to Know About Your CNC Controller

Cutting Metal with Plasma TableThere are many different components in a CNC plasma cutting system.  When researching CNC plasma cutting system and determining what features you need, you will certainly want to look into what kind of CNC controller your system has. CNC stands for Computerized Numerically Controlled and Numerically Controlled machines have been around since the 1940s.  Once computers were invented CNC plasma cutting was introduced and today CNC controllers receive information and control the drive motors, spindle speeds, coolant flow and more.  The machine’s CNC controller receives information from the CAD drawing and CAM cutting software and those instructions are communicated in a numerical code – most commonly G-code.

CNC controllers are incredibly important because they tell everything what to do/where to go and at what pace.  CNC Router Source describes what makes up the CNC controller in any CNC plasma cutting system and the important role it plays, “The CNC controller is the brain of a CNC system. A controller completes the all important link between a computer system and the mechanical components of a CNC machine. The controller’s primary task is to receive conditioned signals from a computer or indexer and interpret those signals into mechanical motion through motor output. There are several components that make up a controller and each component works in unison to produce the desired motor movement. The word “controller” is a generic term that may refer to one of several devices, but usually refers to the complete machine control system. This system may include the protection circuitry, stepper or servo motor drivers, power source, limit switch interfaces, power controls, and other peripherals. Owners, operators, designers, and builders of CNC devices should understand the tasks performed by these components and how they affect machine performance.”

At Tactical CNC, we pride ourselves on providing our clients with what we call a “complete” CNC plasma cutting system.  That means that our systems have everything you need to start cutting upon installation. Our systems are intuitive and easy to use and we use only the highest quality materials when constructing our systems.  Tactical CNC plasma cutting systems contain exceptional CNC controllers to ensure that you are not only able to easily input designs into our software but to also have the machines bring those designs to life with exceptional accuracy and precision.
