3 Advantages of Cutting with a CNC Plasma Cutting System

Models and Sizes page picture

When it comes to metal fabrication, a CNC plasma cutting system is a must.  If you have a metal fabrication shop that you use for your business or for hobby, you may be considering adding a CNC plasma cutting system to your shop.  A CNC plasma cutting system is a combination of things – a plasma torch that is automated, special CNC CAD and CAM cutting software that control the torch, a table on which to place your materials and much more.  It can be used to machine small parts and large pieces, depending on your specific needs.  Below we discuss 3 advantages of adding a CNC plasma cutting system to your metal fabrication shop.

  1. Cutting Efficiency
    • In the past, metal fabricators may have used a handheld plasma torch for cutting purposes but it is not the most efficient option. Handheld cuts take time and there is a much larger chance for error.  When you install a Tactical CNC plasma cutting system, you get a complete system that contains CAD and CAM cutting software that automates your cuts for you, taking all of the guesswork out of it.  Further, our machines have automatic torch height control to ensure the torch is always at the optimal height to minimize damage or warping.  By automating cuts, it is much quicker to cut multiple parts or intricate designs which improves efficiency and allows you to be far more productive in your metal fabrication shop.
  2. Accuracy and Precision
    • As mentioned, by automating cuts with CAD and CAM software, along with automatic torch height control, the cuts you get will be far more accurate and precise. Because it is machine controlled, the motions are very smooth and cuts are very clean. Further, not only will cuts be more precise and accurate but more consistent so if cutting multiple small parts, they will be far more uniform which is important in manufacturing.
  3. Variety of Materials
    • CNC plasma torches are capable of cutting both ferrous and non-ferrous materials. A plasma torch can cut through a variety of materials including aluminum, stainless steel, copper, brass and more. This is a significant advantage over oxy-fuel, which has a much more limited amount of materials it can cut.  In addition to being able to cut a variety of materials, plasma torches can also cut a variety of thicknesses which other torches may not be able to do.
