Why a CNC Plasma Cutter is the Best for Steel Fabrication

Advance 5x10 plasma system

There are many industries that rely on steel for the production of the products that they manufacture or use.  These industries need to fabricate parts ranging from very small to very large on a daily basis.  Industries that rely on and fabricate steel include the construction industry, the transportation industry (cars, trucks, aviation, ships, rail, etc.), machine industry, metal products industry, and more!  A huge amount of steel is being fabricated every second and there are a variety of ways to execute that fabrication.  No matter how many industrial advancements take place or new types of fabrication are created one thing remains true – CNC plasma cutting systems are the best tool for steel fabrication.

CNC plasma cutters are ideal for steel fabrication because they are able to precisely and accurately cut through a variety of different size metal sheets.  At Tactical CNC, our CNC plasma cutting systems use sophisticated CAD drawing and CAM cutting software and communicate with the CNC controller to ensure that the plasma torch always cuts the exact, pre-determined dimensions.  Our CNC plasma cutting systems are not only accurate but fast, executing many precise cuts in seconds.  Manufacturing businesses that utilize steel need to complete as many cuts possible in the shortest amount of time while maintaining precision and accuracy.    Tactical CNC works with leading plasma cutter industry manufacturers including Hypertherm and Victor Thermal Dynamics. Plasma torches can cut both mild steel and stainless steel and, depending on the specific torch chosen, can cut thicknesses from 0.500 inches all the way to 1.500 inches.  Additionally, Tactical CNC plasma cutting systems cut very quickly and, as The Fabricator points out, accuracy and a reduced heat-affected zone (HAZ) are achieved when CNC plasma cutters cut quickly on steel, “The HAZ is small in plasma-cut pieces. Most HAZ measurements in this study were less than 0.001 inch thick.HAZ varies with speed and power. The extent of the HAZ in mild steel is related to process variables, such as cut speed and power, as well as material thickness.Faster cutting produces less HAZ. Decreasing the time required to perform a cut by using high amperage and high-speed conditions reduces the HAZ.More heat (per square inch) can produce less HAZ. High-energy density processes (more power per unit area), such as high-precision PAC (plasma arc cutting), produce less HAZ.”  This is good news for the manufacturing and fabrication industry because they can cut quickly and accurately while reducing material waste from damage.
