4 Considerations When Choosing a CNC Plasma Cutting Systems

When it comes to choosing your CNC plasma cutting system, the options can feel overwhelming.  There are many different types of CNC plasma cutting systems on the market, with many different features.  Some systems are fairly basic and “entry-level”, some are quite elaborate – containing all of the bells and whistles that a large industrial manufacturer could want.  So, where do you fall on the spectrum of fabricating and manufacturing needs?  Using the tips below, we at Tactical CNC can help guide you to the ideal CNC plasma cutting system for your workshop.

  1. Assess Your Manufacturing Needs & Goals
    • It is important to assess what your manufacturing needs and goals are before investing in a CNC plasma cutting system. What is the average sheet size you intend to cut or anticipate you may need to cut in the future?  For example, could you increase your savings by purchasing a larger sheet from your supplier if your plasma cutting system can accommodate a larger sheet?  What are your productivity needs?  Are you producing one piece per month, one piece per day, one piece per minute, or more?  Higher productivity leads to higher profitability.
  2. Assess Your Workshop Capacity
    • How much room do you have in your workshop and how many personnel do you have to assist you with cutting? Do you want to trim the fat and reduce personnel yet maintain or increase productivity?  Cutting with a handheld plasma cutter will not allow you to do so but if you invest in an automated CNC plasma cutting system, you can achieve that goal.  At Tactical CNC, we have a selection of systems in various sizes that can be customized to meet your workshop needs.
  3. Software
    • Though there are a variety of price points when it comes to CNC plasma cutting systems, not all are created equal. In fact, it is vitally important that you investigate the features of your system before making a purchase.  Be certain that your system comes with software.  At Tactical CNC, when you purchase a CNC plasma cutting system, you get a system complete with sophisticated CAD drawing and CAM cutting software.  This state-of-the-art software will help you achieve the precise cuts that you want to achieve.
  4. Quality
    • It is important to look for a quality constructed system. Tactical CNC plasma cutting systems are durably designed and ideally suited to stand the test of time in the rough workshop environment.  Not only that, but because they will stand up to heavy use, they will repeatedly produce a quality cut.  The motion of the pieces in our systems are smooth and friction free and we use optical proximity sensors for the system to find its table limits.  Because of all of these things, our systems produce some of the most pristine cuts available.
